Dress Code

The Cartwright School District has a mandatory dress code to promote learning, increase safety on the school campus, foster school unity, and minimize clothing expenses by eliminating label competition. If a student is not in dress code, he/she will have to obtain the proper dress from home.

  • The uniform colors are navy blue bottoms, blue jeans are allowed, and solid white or solid light blue with long or short sleeves and a collar. Students may also wear Estrella Middle School gray or purple T-shirts, purchased from Estrella Middle School.
  • All clothing must be properly hemmed.
  • Uniforms may not be any more than one size larger or smaller than the student's actual size.
  • Skirts, skorts, shorts, and jumpers may not be worn more than 4 inches above the knee.
  • No baggy or oversized uniforms are acceptable.
  • Absolutely no "sagging."  Pants must have a belt loop to prevent sagging.
  • If belts are worn (only one belt buckle) they may not reflect gangs, may not be more than one size larger than the waist, must be worn in the belt loops, and the excess length may not hang down. No pocket chains.
  • Undergarments/T-shirts must be solid white or light grey with no symbols/logos and may not extend beyond the uniform shirt.
  • No logos/symbols on any shirt with the exception of the school logo shirt.
  • PANTS must be navy blue in color, including blue jeans, shorts or skirts.  Only a solid navy blue color is permitted.  NO OTHER COLORS ARE ALLOWED. FRAYED OR PANTS WITH HOLES ARE NOT ALLOWED.
  • No spandex, nylon/stretch, sweat pants, or sport pants/shirts.
  • No slits or shreds on hemline.
  • Sweatshirts (pullovers, open front, and sweaters) are acceptable providing they do not represent inappropriate slogans.  Sweatshirts or coats may not be worn outside when the temperature is over 80 degrees.
  • Coats/windbreakers may be of any color as long as the coats do not draw attention to the wearer of the coat. For example, coats that might suggest things or ideas that are not appropriate for school. Outerwear should not be worn in the classroom.
  • No house slippers of flip-flops.
  • Students must have tennis shoes for P.E. due to safety concerns, student may not wear jewelry of any type during P.E.
  • Cartwright School District has determined that students will not change uniforms for P.E.
  • Bandanas, caps, hats, sunglasses, and sweatbands are not allowed at school, on the bus, at the bus stops, or at any school activity.
  • Students must have their school ID in their possession at all time. It is required in order to ride the bus, check out a library book, or attend any school functions.
